Clark Faculty

Welcome to the Goddard Library! This guide will provide an overview of some opportunities available to you as a faculty member at Clark. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Interlibrary Loan

Use our interlibrary loan and document delivery services to request physical materials, book chapters, journal articles, microfilm, dissertations, physical media, and more from an extensive network of libraries and institutions in North America and beyond.

The average time is five business days for articles and up to two weeks for books. Some requests have been known to take longer. Service is interrupted for weekends, breaks, and holidays. Give yourself enough time to accommodate the wait period.

There are two ways to request items:

  • Automatically plug records from the Discovery tool into a new interlibrary loan request. Just be on the lookout for the Request on Interlibrary Loan option and you will be guided from there.

  • Sign in to the Clark University ILL System and choose the type of new request you want to make on the lefthand column. Fill out the form using the citation information available. Red asterisk fields are mandatory. The more information you give us, the easier and quicker the process is on our end!

When your item has arrived, you will receive an email notification. For articles or book chapters, you will receive a link to a PDF copy in your account. This will remain there for 60 days before disappearing, so be sure to save it. Physical items can be picked up at the Library Service Desk on the 2nd floor. We will keep materials on the pick-up shelf until their due date, but we encourage you to pick them up sooner rather than later.

Please note that reference books, textbooks, and/or new releases may be more difficult and/or impossible to obtain. Archival materials (unique collections and/or documents) are beyond our scope entirely. We recommend directly contacting those institutions to inquire about access options to archival materials.

Your ability to request a renewal will depend on whether the lending library allows them. To check, go to the Checked Out Items page in your interlibrary loan account. Click on the transaction number of the item you wish to renew.   If the library allows renewals, you will see a Renew Request option at the top of the page. The request must be made at least two days before the due date (if it's closer than two days to the due date, the option disappears regardless of the lending libraries policy). When you request a renewal, the lending library still has to accept. You will be notified by email either way. If the renewal is accepted, the email will let you know the new due date. If the renewal is denied, please bring back the materials by the original due date. If you don't have a renew option, you can always email illoan@clarku.edu requesting us to put in a request for you.
