ERIC is a very broad database that includes peer-reviewed journals, conference papers, and reports from many different types of sources. It also offers advanced searching options to help you find exactly what you're looking for.
Education Research Complete provides direct access to hundreds of peer-reviewed journals covering education from early childhood to higher education.
The Chronicle isn't a database or an academic journal, but it's a great source for journalism about what's going on in higher education in the US.
