Clark University Celebrates Juneteenth

On June 18, 2021, President Joseph Biden declared Juneteenth a National Holiday in the United States of America to recognize June 19, 1865, the day on which Americans who had been enslaved in Galveston, Texas finally received communication that they were emancipated.
This guide provides selected readings and primary sources related to Juneteenth, as well as information about Annette Gordon-Reed, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University. Dr. Gordon-Reed received an honorary degree at Clark University's May 2022 Commencement and is the bestselling author of On Juneteenth (Liveright, 2021).
