JSTOR has a large curated collection of history resources, covering a wide range of geographical locations and time periods. You will find articles published from the 20th century to the present.
Project Muse provides a curated database of scholarly journals and books for humanities research. The collection includes sources from many of the world's leading university presses and scholarly societies.
Looking for articles from the time period about your topic, event, or person? Searching in a newspaper archives, especially a national news source such a the New York Times, can help provide some different perspectives on your topic.
Focusing on a world history topic? If it takes place between 1691 and 1880, you may be able to find articles about it in this database. Similar to searching a news source, it can help provide some perspectives from the time period about your topic, person or event.
