Interlibrary Loans (ILL)

All things ILL -- More than "just" books!

Using ILLiad for the First Time

ILLiad is the electronic system Clark students, staff, and faculty use to request an item through interlibrary loan. The name ILLiad can be thought of as an acronym for InterLibrary Loan internet accessible database.

When clicking on the link to log into ILLiad, you will be prompted to login into to the Clark proxy server using your Clark username and password.

The first time you log into ILLiad, you will setup your ILLiad account with the following user information: name, Clark e-mail address, physical mailing address, department/major, and status. After creating your account, you will immediately be able to place ILL requests.

Submitting Requests

ILLiad makes submitting requests simple through electronic forms. The navigation bar has a section called "New Request" with several subcategories to select from depending on what you want such as a book, article, thesis, etc.

The forms have some required fields such as title and author, but most are not required prior to clicking submit. However, the more information you can give us, the better, especially when it comes to tracking down article requests. Providing the volume, issue, and page numbers is very helpful and prevents a delay from needing to verify an incomplete citation.

Did you know? When searching Clark's databases, you have the option to select the link "Request this item through interlibrary loan" and the appropriate form in ILLiad with automatically populate with the citation information!

Electronically Received Articles

When your requested article is available, you will receive an e-mail with a link directing you to view it in your ILLiad account. The link will bring you to the ILLiad home page. The article can be found under View > "Electronically Received Articles" in the navigation menu.

Reminder: The article is available in your ILLiad account for 60 days after posting. Need it longer? Download it to your computer and keep it for as long as you wish.

Renewing ILL materials

Renewal requests are granted or denied at the discretion of the lending library, although most allow for one renewal per item. You can renew your item through your ILLiad account prior to the day the item is due (ILLiad does not allow for renewal requests once the due date has passed).

Log into ILLiad > click on "Checked Out Items" from the navigation menu > click the "Transaction Number" of the item you wish to renew > click on "Renew Item" link in red toward the top of the page. You will receive an e-mail at a later date stating that your request has been either granted or denied.

Is your item currently overdue? E-mail illoan@clarku.edu and we will submit a renewal request to the lending library on your behalf.
